OT Things to do in London

Did Tower Bridge the other day with the grandchildren. Really enjoyed it.

if you are anywhere near St Pauls Cathedral, Postmans Park is worth walking through. There is (or was) a postal museum near there too. Also the Barbican Museum has a nice collection of Roman Artifacts.

Avoid Tate Modern on the Weekends.

There is always the Kew Bridge pumping station museum, which seems to be open :-

Pullman cars had both First and Second Class accommodation , I treated myself to a ride on it when I was 15 shortly before it stopped. Used to spend a week in London each year with grandparents who were fairly relaxed about me exploring on my own . My saved up money from doing harvest work in the first part of the summer holidays would not have stretched to a first class fare.

A friend and I had to travel to London (and on to Kent) for university interviews. I accidentally arranged for us to meet at the station and get a particular train. We ended up paying the surcharge (couldn't wait or we'd have been late). He gave me grief for months afterwards!

Why would any sane person wish to know the tensile strength of a bit of rusty wrought iron?:-)

Now an anchor chain, much more exciting and possibly useful.

It can soon add up as my brother found out and why he decided he could no longer justify having a car to himself. And it;s handy to know you can get on another bus for FREE or use the tube and get charge £1.50 as a minium. But it's a £4.40 cap daily or a £20.20 for weekly.

I dunno if the Tay Bridge was rusty. But this better video shows they're grills that used to be in the pavement so might just possibly have been of passing interest to some?

they used to allow the public to stand right next to the test item so if you turn up with a bit of chain and ask nicely could be really exciting... :)
