Stale news. This was all across the media last month when it actually happened.

Just shows how little I follow the 'popular' press.
Do generally have sky news on, but must have missed this one.

I know some years ago there was some crazy American woman who would chuck out the chute then jump and catch it up and put it on in time to land safely. these sort fo people obviiously are addicted to addrenalin. On the other hand they are just completely mad... Brian

I served in the RAF at the same time that Group Captain Oxbridge(?) was the CO. He jumped out of a plane during the second world war, unaware that his parachute had burnt off. He fell through pine trees, on landing, and finished up in a snow drift. Broke his legs but otherwise was fine, I understand that when they finally sorted it out and believed his tale the Germans awarded him a medal. A much better feat than this, I think.

IIRC someone fell through a supermarket roof and survived as well in the last decade or so
Cant find it though.

I think you have in mind Flight Sergeant Alkemade, a rear gunner in a Lancaster. But in my view the American skydiver deserves a bit more credit given he had to aim :)
