OT: EU and Canada

Who knows?

But the rationale is this. Would you stop people in Surrey, moving to Hereford? Or vice versa? Of course not, because its *all one country*.

The EU is *all one country*, in the minds of its protagonists...

And that's the point, it was never a common market, never a confederation of nations - it was an attempt to produce a political and economic *union*, by a bunch of communists, who modelled it on the Soviet Republic and didn't change gear when that fell to pieces.

It has been sold as an economic brotherhood of equals, but it's not. It's a united soviet socialist republic.

Without the tanks.

Yet.

That doesn't mean the Commission has to pay any attention, does it, any more than Kings had to in the 18thC.

The system in place that Dave is so keen on is such that the Commissioners can just wave two fingers at the peasants.

Do you want a bet on us accepting FoM?

So if there were no promises what did people vote leave for? Nothing is going to happen as there were no promises made.

But we never were liable to do that, if the worst actually happened we could have left then.

We are leaving because some idiots have predicted it happening, its just like AGW people have made a lot of noise and the idiots have listened. the difference is that its going to cost us a lot to leave and there isn't any good reason for us to have to leave ATM. Oh, hang on, that's the same as AGW too.

The leavers just have a different religion.

Do you want to list any of those things the EU wants?

Who is going to add tariffs?

Not amongst brexiteers.

I don't know where people get the idea that Ikea stuff is quality, none of the stuff I have seen is good. Its just cheap fashion stuff that you buy and chuck away after a couple of years.

You really don't get it, do you? The UK will put tariffs on US products after leaving the EU - unless it has a trade agreement with it. Which will takes years to negotiate - if ever.

You've fallen into the common mistake of thinking Germany runs the EU.

Because it's the European Union. Not a European Free Trade area. And little Englanders and other extreme right wing groups throughout Europe want power for themselves.

But not, apparently, to the peasants of Belgium.

BTW, one major reason I'm in favour of the EU is it sets out to protect and extend the rights of your 'peasants'. No wonder you dislike it.

True.

Nope, the Prez doesn?t get anything he wants. That should be obvious with what happened with Obamacare.

Its doing much better than Britain is economically.

It's difficult to have free movement of capital, goods and services but not people.

No it isn't.

The idea was never people in general, but workers.

As for why, in a way it's basic classical economics - enable the cheapest 'surplus' (un- or underemployed) labour to move freely and produce at the lowest possible cost.

This market-based 'Fortress Europe' was always the key plank of the EU - it's reason for being, and a response to the dominance of the US.

The (an) irony here is that the UK may well need this free movement far more than, say, Poland within the next 10 years.

Very funny Dave. You're falling for the "benevolent dictatorship" twaddle.

More of your illogical nonsense.

You should reads some of the informed media you so despise and you will see just how well the UK is doing compared to the rest of the EU.
