OT: Employees and the snowflake generation

I assume they don't teach shoplifting avocados from Waitrose though?

Probably not.

That's odd. One thing that HMRC have rarely done since IR35 became law, was enforcing it. They preferred instead to go after single-owner companies where the wife was also a director and getting dividends for her 'work', using S660 as the reason.

When HMRC tried to make health authorities deduct NI and TX from payments made to locum medics, the medics just threatened to walk out, so HMRC backed down.

millennials" are usualy those that are leaving or just left school that were born after 31st december 1999.

I know how to do stuff before leaving home, that's why I bought 3 differnt types of tin opener, because I knew that for me cooking would need such a thing as I;d used and seen them iused befofre I left home.

But it seem millennials or perhaps it's just the majority can use their phones.

well even I don;t call that cooking. But they will know how to use their phone to order meals.

and how did that affect anything ?

Why is it odd? You say yourself that they tried and tried it they did with me - they didnt' get far and wouldn't have if they'd tried to enforce it. Still didn't stop them coming round, knocking on the door and mentioning IR35 within the first 10seconds of doing a tax inspection.

Maybe Broadcasting is a more "interesting" job then being an electrician perhaps and attracted people who want to work in that field?

Also ..

When I were a lad I'd have loved a job at the BBC but it was in London and it seemed if you hadn't got a degree, then it was a no go:(..

Where i came from Uni's were for the toffs!..

Ha! Nowadays they'll take any old riff-raff that unquestioningly parrots Lefty dogma, so long as it's a non-white applicant.

Depends on what job you were looking at on the technical side. In operations (cameras lighting sound etc) no need for a degree, although some did. On the engineering side many did, but not all - Charles would likely be better informed.

In those days the BBC did much of its own training.

Plenty came to Engineering as Technical Asssistanst (TAs) straight from school and went through a 3 (I think) year training programme. working in the studios intersperced with courses at the Engineering Training Department (at Evesham). Others, like myself, came in as Graduates. We did the final TA Cource (16 weeks) in 6! We were supposed to be able to take things in quickly.

What did the rep of the training company say when you explained your side?

There is the problem.

We?ve whole families where no one works, not because they can?t find work but because they are supported by taxpayers and have quite a comfortable life- house, food, tv, ......

But they don't go on booze-cruise holidays in a motor caravan towing a trailer with a second vehicle, or get driven to Lodge Night dinners in a taxpayer-subsidised PHEV, do they?

Thanks Charles. Pretty well what I remember. We had the odd direct entry university type to operations too. Which I did think odd, since the skills needed could really only be learned 'on site'.

Perhaps different today with so many meja courses around. Although perhaps not, given the poor standards of lighting and sound we get so often today.
