Agreed - sometimes people just make things too damn complicated. What was wrong with the simple system we had before? You either had a letter with a stamp on it, or it was a parcel and you paid by weight.

The problem is it doesn't even hint at there being a price range. It's fair to assume from that page that "large letter" covers anything up to A4 size and 750g.
What about simply "letter size 1", "letter size 2" etc. Or even better, go back to the way it used to be. It was either a letter or a parcel, and parcels just went by weight.
No. But un-anything is clearly a negative. You have to think of the word "usual" then negate it. "Rare" is already a concept in itself. That's why George Orwell's idea of "ungood" wouldn't work, people would get confused. "Bad" is much easier to understand.
That was due to not understanding Shakespeare, which teachers think is written in English! WTF is "thee"? Does that mean the? You? They? It? Perhaps if they'd had the sense to devote the first couple of lessons to teaching us what the most basic words meant, we could have understood what the f*ck was going on. Take the sentence I just wrote, I'll now remove all the simple words, which can't be understood if they're in ancient English, see how difficult it is to understand?:
"Perhaps ---- ---- had ---- sense ---- devote ---- first couple ---- lessons ---- teaching ---- what ---- most basic words meant, ---- could have understood what ---- f*ck ---- going on"
It gets worse when you're trying to understand a conversation in a play. Somebody says something to someone, and you don't know if they're saying "you" or "him".
"Would you be so good as to deliver this package to him? He lives next door." becomes "Would ---- be so good as to deliver ---- package to ----? ---- lives next door." So who is the package going to? We simply don't know.
She called it a copper, and AFAIK it was made of copper, but by the time I was born she no longer had it. Maybe that was just a name like "Hoover" which could actually be an Electrolux.
It's a soggy island with f*ck all sunlight, no crops, no raw materials, nothing. It's surprising we can live here at all. Most things have to be imported.
Most people sleep naked for example. And you can always strip off to weigh yourself. You only need take off the heavy stuff.

Don't let Hucker draw you into another troll by correcting him. :)
+1
Is that a marriage proposal?
+2
He never got on with women or working for a living.

Wives just cost money.
Wait till I start talking about God, then you'll see who's trolling whom :-----)
Assumptions shouldn't be relied on. You should have looked at the price schedule instead.
Could you remind me how big/heavy could a letter be under the old system?
And yet unusual and rare mean exactly the same thing. Why isn't rare clearly a negative since it means not usual?
But regardless, what's wrong with a double negative anyway? 'Not uncommon' has a slightly different meaning/emphasis than plain 'common' and it's not unheard of for people to use the expression.
Forsooth.
I don't think metallic tubs actually had brand names. It was the sort of thing you'd buy at corner shop at end of road run by cantankerous old sod like Ronnie Barker in 'Open All Hours'.
I was, of course, referring just to Scotland. People have somehow managed to live there since time immemorial. If you make enough money in services to the rest of the world you can import everything you need.
Perhaps the bathroom is the place where the scales won't get in the way, then? But the bathroom floor is not the most convenient place for weighing large letters.
The money don't matter that so very much, unless you are a unemployable wanker like Hucker.

That's just my name for the those high spirited folks that trun up from time to time in this group and who all seem to dislike one another and express this by posting streams of boilerplate insults.
