Not being able to find stuff!

I had some Fugen silicone tools, I wanted them bout couldn't find them so bought more. I have since found them and given them to my son.

Now I want to do some caulking and can't find the replacements! FFS! They can only be in the house or the shed and i've scoured. How does stuff become temporarily invisible?

It gets temporarily moved to another dimension, possibly L-space. The interiors of freezers are particularly prone to this.

I find the third dimension is usually enough to lose it!

Stuff vanishes under layers of later cruft.

I built this drawer shelf combo to go on my "side" desk because I could not cope with amount of small stuff crap that accumulated on it:

I managed to fill a whole drawer with countless packets of cable ties there were exhumed in the tidy up process that followed! (each time I looked - I could not see a pack, so tacked another onto the next order etc)

Far too neat and tidy it's one of those deep fake images isn't it.

But at least the draws are all untitled. :-) Mean yuo can but stuff anywhere and you always know it'll be in an untiled draw

Having the same thing lately. Labelling every storage area/box.drawer etc & keeping a list of contents works mostly - its shortcomings are no mystery but it beats the other options so far.

It's because you put them somewhere safe.

Don't ask me. Ive been looking for my vernier calipers for two days. I know I have seen it lying out somewhere, but F*ck Nose where.

Like the Internet, L-space is full of cats. It's where they go between meals and hunting

Oh please. Don't go there. My mum in early stages of her fatal dementia, took to putting her car keys in 'safe places' because she couldn't remember where they were, and then, not remembering where the 'safe places' were, became convinced the neighbours were breaking into the house and playing tricks on her. I lots my mobile a few weeks ago, Wasn't in any safe places, but I remembered having it the last car journey I took so I phoned it wandered round the house, couldn't find it, phoned it again and got into the car, could hear it, but not see it where it would normally be...it had slipped between the seat and the transmission tunnel. I have had my wallet do that come to think of it, too.,

Not as neat any more - but you can still see desk in places :-)

Mostly labelled now!

But then again I did lose a Raspberry Pi the other day because I did not think to look in the drawer labelled "Microcontrollers"

It worse when you are doing a job and have used the tool minutes before, you haven't moved that far since and you still cannot find it.

“Somewhere in the cosmos, he said, along with all the planets inhabited by humanoids, reptiloids, fishoids, walking treeoids and superintelligent shades of the color blue, there was also a planet entirely given over to ballpoint life forms. And it was to this planet that unattended ballpoints would make their way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they knew they could enjoy a uniquely ballpointoid lifestyle, responding to highly ballpoint-oriented stimuli, and generally leading the ballpoint equivalent of the good life."

It was originally 'biroid'.

How is it possible to sit on the floor in front of say a fused spur, unscrew the screws with a flat-bladed screwdriver, take it off the wall, check the cord grip tighness with a small cross-headed screwdriver, go to put the spur back on and find that the flat-bladed screwdriver is on the other side of the room? At no point have you thrown anything, there is no-one else in the room and you've not get up (believe me, with my arthritic knees, getting up is a painful struggle).

For many years, until it got broken, we had a pottery biscuit barrel in the kitchen. The barrel was named "a safe place" and we did make efforts to put things in there and look for them there. It worked quite well.

Well, I have several wire stripper/screwdrivers which I cannot find, and even some power supplies for useable gear as well. Does make you think if you are actually seeing things. I of course can't any more but even by feel how is it that screws placed in a tray have one missing when you come to replace them? I noticed in the local furniture shop something called an occasional table, once. What is it when its not a table? Brian

Also when you buy, lets say screws, you used to be able to buy just the ones you wanted. Now its a pack, and I'd love to meet the person who decides how many of whatever is in a pack, but that is another story, when I needed a screw to stand in for a broken clip on the filter tray of a vacuum the other day, I went for my drawer of packs of screws that were the left overs, only to find the pack which I remember having a couple of spares in was empty. Had I forgotten I'd used them somewhere else? Or had the dimension fairies been at work again.

Brian

Your wife will know where it is. Invariably if I ask have you seen such and such a thing it will suddenly appear before her

Worst case was brother in law, Took the family to see some street parades and when he gat back his car had gone. Reported the loss to the police and took the family home in a taxi. Got a phone call from the police the next day. They had found his car in a street parallel to the one where he had claimed he had parked it. Red faces all round

The lid of the centre console in my car lifts up in 2 ways, one to fully open it and another to just open a very slim separate upper compartment contained within the lid itself. I hadn't noticed this until I managed to accidentally hide and then later find my wallet, but not until i'd returned to every establishment i'd visited to see if i'd left it behind, given up hope and cancelled my cards.
