What was in the "Activate your kit online" step that the website mentions? Does that link bar codes on the samples to your data?

Perhaps it would have been a good idea to type and print an accompanying letter giving your full details?

My wife took an item of clothing back to a store. They scanned the bar code on the item's label, and they immediately had all of her details - the order number etc. In other words, each item (not just each type of item) has a unique bar code, and it's all tied together by the computer system with the orders, the customers, etc.

I gave that just as an example. It would be pretty easy for MHDNA to put a unique identifier on your swab, and then tie it to your account.

From some of the accounts that I've seen providing samples to different companies or to the same company at different times will give different returned results. It seems that this form of DNA analysis to give you your heritage is much the same as obtaining your personal horoscope based on your birth date.

There blurb says not to enclose anything else!

You just enter all your details,choose a password and then your relatives' dates of birth, deaths and places of birth.

I am guessing that one step when you registered on their website was to type in a code from the kit your wife bought you.

These schemes seem to have a bar code on the tube. Also, there is a post-paid package for returning the sample, and it could have an identifier to identify who the package was sent to, in the first place.

you are correct. it came from the box that the kit came in. That gets dumped!

Ever told anything to a website that has no facility for it? :(

If you have the full domain name of the company making the kit, perhaps there is an unboxing video on Youtube showing what is supposed to be in the box.

Yes, but looking at the "how to use" video on their website, it is clear that the vials have a bar code on them. I will bet that the bar code on the vials is related to the code on the kit that you linked to your name when you activated the kit.

They scan the bar code on the vial, and that brings up the details you entered on activation. It works!
