Hotpoint WD61 won't empty

I've got a Hotpoint WD61 which refuses to empty.

When it comes time to empty the water, the pump gurgles, but no water comes out. Turn the power off, drop the pipe down below the level in the drum and the water flows out of its own accord. (i.e. there is nothing obstructing water flow between drum and the waste hose).

I've done the following checks: Checked the coin trap at the back of the drum, the flexible hose between drum and pump and the pump itself for foreign debris - nothing at all. Checked the level sensing chamber at the front of the drum for obstructions (unlikely, as the drum fills to the correct level)

It's as if the pump cannot generate enough head to pump the water out of the drum. With the power off (naturally), the pump rotor flicks 90degrees when rotated.

Before I replace the pump, is there anything else I should check?
