Something stuck in the pump? If it doesn't pump out it won't spin - there is a water level sensor on the spin side and it won't spin until the water is emptied.
You need to take the rubber hose from the base of the outer drum to the drain pump off and have a good feel around for obstructions. All sorts of odd metalwork etc seems to get in and sometimes snags on the outer drum so it only gets pulled in to the pump when it is working - hence the need to prod about. Some machines have a debris trap which is easier to get at but doesn't always work 100%.
Note you can't avoid getting a pint or so of water on the floor no matter how hard you try to drain the drum first so be prepared for that.
Failing that it probably a pump bearing sticking.
You Sir are a Genius !

Not often you get to fix the fault and get paid to do it as well :-).

No wires from Bras? very disappointing, that was always my favourite
According to my neighbour the S/H whitegoods shop (who sees more broken washing machines than any of us do), the coin with the most destructive power is the 5p (the new tiny ones). Washing machines were designed to resist errant pennies, but these new little ones just go through the trap and straight into the pump impeller.
