Hoover New Wave 1100 washng machine won't drain - help!

Hi

I've got a New Wave 1100 washing machine that won't drain, and no manual

- can anyone help me out?

The machine has been playing up a bit over the past year and on this occasion, it's got part way through a programme, all the lights on it started flashing and I'm not able to cancel the programme (and drain the machine) in order to be able to open the door. I've tried putting it on a spin cycle which normally drains everything first but that doesn't work either.

I've had the thing for 14 years and it's on its last legs so I am quite prepared to write it off but before I get the thing moved, I need to drain the water and open the door to get my washing out.

The back of the machine has a narrow grey hose coming from it which leads into a drainage pipe but other than that the back of it is simply a sheet of metal. What do I need to do with the hose in order to drain the machine?

Or do I need to force the door open armed with several buckets and hope for the best?!

I'm back at home on Sunday so if anyone has any ideas over the weekend then I'd be really grateful :)

Many thanks in advance

Ruth

The message from snipped-for-privacy@underwired.com contains these words:

Pull the machine out, the grey hose that goes into the drain will just pull out of the pipe on the wall. Put a bucket on the floor and lower the hose into it.

As the level drops the water will become increasingly reluctant to get over the edge of the bucket so you'll need to empty the bucket and start again with it sloping. Eventually something shallow like a wok is easier.

Chances are there's something blocking the pump. Once you've drained the machine, tilt it over against the wall or a chair (make sure it can't skid away at the bottom) and look for the pump. It'll have the drain hose running to it and another thick hose from the bottom of the drum, and two wires. Take it out, take it apart and remove whatever's in it. Put it all back together and try your luck.

Obviously if you can see what's jammed the pump without taking it apart, that's better!

I am not familiar with the New Wave 1100 washing machine but when my Whirlpool machine has done what yours has I have removed the filter and drained the water out through that. I usually find hairclips, coins and other foreign bodies that have been left in clothes and which get trapped in the filter and stop the pump from emptying the water from the drum. On my machine the filter and pump is covered by a round 15cm flap on the front panel. If yours has this flap it should hinge down at the bottom and allow you to unscrew the filter. If you put newspaper down and have a couple of plastic buckets or bowls at the ready they should catch most of the water. If the water comes out a bit fast you can slow it down by pushing the filter back in while you grab another bucket or bowl. Once the water has drained out you can remove the filter and clean it, and feel down to the pump blades for the presence of foreign bodies. Replace the filter and test on a rinse and spin cycle. If the machine won't pump out then either the pump or the controller are faulty. Good luck!

Hi there

Many thanks indeed for that - I managed to get all the water out and also got the door to open! I didn't however find any blockages; I think it's probably time for a new one :)

Once again

Many thanks

Hello Guy

Also any thanks to you for your help - I got the thing open without flooding the place and I rescued my washing too. Although I wasn't able to see if there was a blockage anywhere, I think I'll be treating myself to a new machine as this one has been repaired a few times and is pretty elderly!

Once again, many thanks for the instructions, very helpful indeed.

Kind regards

Ruth
