Hotpoint washer/dryer test mode?

I have a 2 month old WD440 Hotpoint Aquarius washer dryer, it is currently full of wet washing and the door is locked. The 'on' light flashes on for about 2 seconds, then it flashes on again with the 'door locked' light, then again with some other lights. It is apparently unresponsive to pressing any combination of cancel/start or on button. I can't unlock the door to get the washing out or even start a new wash!

Is this some sort of test mode it is in, or does anybody know how I can get it back to normal?

Well whatever mode it was in, i cut the power for 5 mins then turned it on again and the door was unlocked. Funnily enough soon after restarting the wash the machine hung again mid-cycle. The dishwasher is also acting up now mid-cycle. Both are brand new. I'm starting to think that my dodgy plumber has frigger something to do with the plumbing round the back.

For anyone following this little tale I have found the cause ...

Pretty soon after I 'fixed' the washing machine I turned it on and also the dishwasher. They both stopped about 5 mins into their cycles my flatmate shouted up to me. I said i'd be down in a minute, 10 seconds later I heard a scream. Said flatmate had just gotten a nasty shock from the toaster. Standing in bare feet on a wet kitchen floor wasn't a good idea she learned. Still though she shouldn't have gotten a shock.

The dishwasher and washing machine and said toaster socket all seemed to be in the same area of the kitchen, so putting 2 and 2 together it seemed to me that there must be a loose connection somewhere. I checked the sockets on the kitchen wall and the ones for the appliances but nothing was loose. However all the 'dodgy' sockets feeding the appliances seem to be in the same electrical loop (excuse the technical terms!).

Still haven't proven its a loose connection or loose earth or somesuch but it does point to being an electrical wiring fault. Time to call in the experts to sort it out.
