Seriously, if you?re pissing many tens of thousands of pounds on a vehicle that probably gonna cover only a few thousand miles a year, worrying about fuel consumptions seems a bit daft.

I have made that point elsewhere, and also the inclusion of costs entering any clean air zone as being a small element of the overall picture.

Very few motorhome owners are going to spend any time at all in clean air zones. If they do have to, we?ll if you can afford a nice motorhome you can afford the clean air zone charges. ;-)

When I was at school, one of the teachers drove to work every day in a motorhome - that area is now in the (not yet active) Manchester clean air zone, so that'd be 10 pounds per day (under 3.5 tonnes) or 60 pounds per day (over 3.5 tonnes)!

If in the latter category, just being in the area for a week and driving anywhere would soon become very expensive.

Good. Driving a dirty polluting vehicle in a clean air zone isn?t a right. If one needs to do it you should have to pay for the privilege.

Many cities allow anyone living in that city to drive a dirty diesel in the clean air zone without charge. Same for anyone claiming to run a business in the same area.

Only the occasional person from outside is expected to pay when passing through or visiting.

How cities manage their clean air zones is up to them. My point stands. Anyone who can afford to spend tens of thousands on a motorhome can easily afford to pay any extra fees. If they can?t, then they should avoid such zones.

Exactly. There is nothing worse anyway than trying to drive a motorhome through city streets - except trying to turn one round in a cul de sac

No, as I said, many cities exempt you from any charges if your V5 is an address within the Clean Air Zone, irrespective of age or engine type.

I've not studied the maps extensively but on first inspection it would appear that if I was driving from Darwen to Derbyshire for example i'd have a job on missing 2 clean air zones.

Though, because they are both G Manchester I wonder if that would count as one?

And as long as you don't drive your vehicle in the zone, you won't get charged. Only on the days you do.

It just means you won't be using it as a runaround, but then in London, there is no need when you have 24/7 cheap subsidised public transport.

I suspect there aren't just cameras at the entry to the ULEZ otherwise ..............

You could say spending all money is a waste, the art is maximising benefit for your spend.
