Especially when the figures for ICE vehicles include those that have been deliberately set on fire after a joy ride!

And EVs too of course. Last time I looked at the figures for my EV, a good proportion of the reported fires were deliberate.

The Beeb article linked to above, says that Alder Hey hospital "have temporarily restricted the parking of electric vehicles in one of our smaller car parks while we upgrade its fire sprinkler system". Perhaps someone should point out to the hospital that EV battery fires are almost impossible to put out by conventional methods once they get going.

AIUI, re-sale value of EV's is falling sharply, due to the limited battery life and the cost of replacing it.

Bollocks. Resale values are falling because prices are falling, in part due to makers having to meet sales targets. Battery life isn’t an issue.

My Volvo is 18 years old, and it still drives reasonably well. I plan to keep it a couple more years, then sell it on, whilst still working well.

Nobody really knows how long the lithium batteries in electric cars will hold a reasonable charge. My experience with battery powered devices suggests that they won't last as long as 18 years.

Hybrids don't need to have huge capacities, the batteries are different.

According to the Fire Service, it was caused by a diesel engined vehicle.

They also get worked much harder than the batteries in full EVs and degenerate faster. If a Prius battery can last 10 years with the chemistry designed 10 years ago, do you really think that EV batteries have got worse?
