Just got the email from Octopus telling me my meter is now out of certification, and to book my smart meter replacement.
A smart meter will bring me no benefits.
My garage is elsewhere, fed by underground cable that looks like 13A max, so fairly useless to charge an EV (that I don’t want anyway), and I can’t charge in the street.
A heat pump here will be a disaster. My patio, the only place it could go, has 10’ fences either side and is steeply terraced. It gets no sun at all in the winter, and is a frost pocket, exactly what a heat pump wouldn’t need. It also quiet here, and any noise from a fan would be intrusive.
I don’t have solar cells or a battery, I wouldn’t get a return on this in my lifetime.
I have a BG Minim electricity monitor. It can tell me, in terms of watts, £, or g/CO2, the instantaneous value, or that since midnight, or yesterday’s, the last seven days, or the last month’s values.
I read both energy meters once a month, and spreadsheet the data.
I have no intention whatsoever to rearrange my daily activities to suit instantaneous energy costs.
Hostile actors are likely to exploit the complex data and control networks for their own ends.
So, how do I fob off this unwanted and unnecessary imposition?
