Dave Plowman (News) explained :
Probably because they are already making a minimum profit on them there is no margin for discounts, hence why they are so much cheaper than the rest. They were discounting some normal stock in Lidl the other day, some cheese was approaching its sell by date.
they also don't do very much in the way of branded products (yes, I know there are a few)
most of the special offers that you will find in Tesco are underwritten by the Brand, not by Tesco
That MO doesn't quite work if all you stock is made-up-name-own-brand products.

Bog seats available twice in July and again in September.
If wonder if their Time and Motion people are aware of this profligracy ?.
Which in turn is 40% more than a proper trade outlet.
Homebase ^D^D^D Bunnings ^D^D^D^D Homebase Chichester is quite impressive.
Amazing selection of power tools and related stuff.
A through-the-wall vent so that BG will be happy when they come to service your open-flue back boiler, which we all still have (not).
July is holiday tummy time, and September is new school term tapeworms time. :-)

Dunno Aldi since they don't have a decent large one round here. But assumed they were similar to Lidl, of which we have several. Not much profit in selling faulty goods when they give a 3 year money back warranty with it. Which incidentally, I've never had to use, despite having bought loads of their DIY stuff. But I do keep receipts just in case.
Oddly, I did notice some special offer stuff the other day on what I'd call ordinary supermarket stuff. But not quite the same confusing amount you get in Tesco. Like the BOGOF type of thing.
Strangly enough on saturday night I was discussing the differnces between aldi and lidle
What also came to light was how bad lidle were on ethical things including product quality and food cleanyness and the way it treated it's staff especially in germany.
I don't live in Germany. Perhaps you do.
I would say the Lidl staff round here are a damn sight more cheerful than the local Tesco.
No I don't but I know people that do. But I'd like to know how this only happens in germany considering how great the EU is said to be on this sort of thing, it seems strange that lidl try such things as gettignn it's workforce to report on their menastrtive cycle , recording toilet reaks and asking female staff whether they think they will want children entered onto their job application forms. A friend who is linked with amnestry international was reading a long list of infrigments out.
That's not saying much is it.
Have you checked the authenticity of these reports? Or could they come from the harry sources of 'facts'?
Not a job I'd fancy. But I doubt you can force someone to be cheerful when they're not. Supermarkets in London tend to have quite a high staff turnover rate - especially in the more junior positions. If Lidl really were that bad, only a fool would work for them.
the difference between Aldi and Lidi is that they have headquarters in different towns
who'd have thought that if someone hadn't told them?
Oh and Lidl use EDLP, whatever the f*ck that is

Although the deals do change occasionally on refreshing the page. I was expecting a CCTV kit today but it's been replaced by ladder clamps.
Owain
The CCTV/DVR often seem to sell out, but usually they just put a "tough luck" banner over it, rather than replacing.
Still not sure how far ahead these are real deals, or last years that they haven't cleared off.
You're on dodwk01 but Screwfix are on dodwk53 today, which may throw things out a bit.
Owain
Yep, I usually need to adjust the screwfudge factor when a new catalogue comes out, also they've swapped to using a CDN for the images rather than their normal webserver.
Their "leap weeks" don't correspond to ISO weeks, but I've tweaked it for now, assuming they will roll to week 1 on Feb 4th.
Only four bog seat shopping days until christmas!
Seems like the CDN is rate-limiting the loading of images
Postponed to 4th March due to their extra week53
