My new car purchase is turning into a nightmare and I wonder if I am trying to do something modern systems just can't cope with.
The new car won't be registered until Friday so it's not on the system yet. My current insurer's online process goes through a tortuous process of trying to identify the car and when it gets there quotes an extra cost of £120 for the remaining 8 months. This is moving from a Suzuki Vitara SZ5 1.4 litre turbo to a Kia Picanto GT-Line 1 litre normally aspirated engine.
I switch to the chat system and the bot puts Bongiwe Madonsela online to help me, I told him I was surprised at the increase. After 20 minutes he finally understand the car is not on the system because it won't be registered until Friday, another 20 minutes and he finally identifies the make and model. Yet another 20 minutes and he comes up with exactly the same cost.
What to other people do? Should I uses the driveaway insurance (24 hour but 5 days if I phone them and surrender to a marketing chat) then use a comparison site?
The alternative might be to see if William Hill has started to sell insurance.
