boroscope - cheap but useful

Bought one of these. Saves having to buy the £50+ ones as no built-in display needed - and the price only £8. Works ok except 1) resolution is not great 2) The mirror attachment is pointless. Other than that it works ok and *might* be useful - good fun anyway. Pity is not 1024 x 768

Bloody good value for a 5 metre one. I'd be inclined to consider the longer one for better reach down the drains: that would do from my main access point right under the house to the site boundary.

Presume you have a cunning plan to actual get it 10m down/along ?

You could do your own colonoscopy. This group is called uk.d-i-y after all.

but run the pc off battery not mains. If you must do that.

Out of interest, when not being used for DIY would it make a quarter decent web cam, I have one just now for monitoring the front of the house but could do with something that has a bit more cable length for better positioning.

I doubt it, the focal length is probably wrong. You might be able to DIY an old camera lens in front of it or something.

Have ordered one to play with - someone posted a link to a cheaper auction for the same thing, about 7 quid delivered.

And I was joking about the endoscope...

Its too late, there will be people in this group who have got the gaffer tape out for a willy's eye view by now.

These cheap camera modules are effectively pin hole cameras so the depth of field is from a few mm to infinity. I have a RaspberryPi camera taped to the inside of a DG window. Rains drops on the outside glass and the hills miles away are all in focus...

Did anyone ever find one of these usb colonoscope thingies that would play with an android phone,

i got my first android fone a month ago, awlays had nokias before, and the last was an N8, so i never got off Symbian, the phone i have is just a galaxy S2, but it would be nice to be able to use an external camera with it if possible.

I bought one with the intention of examining the inside of car body cavities to check they were fully waxed after repairs. With the naked eye you could clearly see what had been waxed and what not on an external test panel. But not with the camera. Sadly. Might, of course, be a function of the LED light.

I have a dead straight run, but it would also be easy enough to cable tie it to drain rods.

You'll need the rods even with a dead straight run...

I have just bought one... Thought it was worth a punt for £11.

Did you go to the bottom of the page and read the question someone asked? I think Ed Balls is looking for an endoscope.
