Amazon - deep down are they rip-off merchants?

In which case Amazon won't step in until you have been through TV Tech Ints complaints procedures. But make sure you do it through Amazon.

I can't recall the exact button, but you click it via the Amazon order details page, and you'll be signposted through to a query/complaints form. Once that's sent, the retailer has a set time to respond, or Amazon will instigate the return/refund for you.

Annoying if you weren't expecting it, but not the same bunfight eBay and PayPal can lead to, from reports.

Apologies if I misunderstood the OP but if it was a replacement remote control did you not look at the more man+dog sites. I found one to replace a *really* obscure remote a few years ago on eBay.

Normally I'd go straight to amazon as a trusted seller and only look else where if they can't supply. Saves having to set up other on-line accounts.

you can buy a programmable remove in Sainsbury's for 12 quid

unfortunately last time I bought one of these there was no section labelled

STB on the program list

can't believe that works for Amazon

1) It's too easy to compare the price with eBay 2) people don't go into Amazon for a packet of biscuits and come out a basketful of other stuff whilst they were there. They just buy the packet of biscuits

They have always given me the refund before I return the item, but will charge if they don't get it within 30 days.

There has always been the option to collect here in England but I find it easier to drop it in at the post office.

Which is great *if* it covers the model you have. If they don't it's chocolate teapot time.

Actually the problem has been resolved via an email from a 3rd party (Thank-you, mate) and I have instructed Amazon NOT to refund me.

On the remote controller is a menu button (of which I was unaware never having used it before on the original remote) and access to the recordings is via a menu option. But it would have been helpful for a note to be included to cover the missing button)

WTF? The device has a button labeled "menu" and you couldn't be arsed to try pressing that. Do you still hate Amazon and ebay for your shortcomings? What a pillock.

I'm just returning an item from a marketplace seller, but the item was despatched by Amazon. Amazon have arranged for Hermes to collect. I just have to stick a return label on and sellotape the parcel closed.

you never access the menu option on your STB

How did you tune it in in the first place?

and do you really just accept all the default settings and never want to change them?

It always was, but it's a shit solution

getting one key access to the recording list has to be one of the top most used 10 keys

Not having a key to do it instead of a function that is number 50 in the list is an awful decision

It would be a million times better if the button wasn't missing

If there was ever a need to set it up when purchased, then it is lost in the mists of time.

When tryiing out all the buttons on the replacement remote, I had pressed the menu button but it just seemed to be a duplicate of the TV Guide button, and the lis of options at the side did not register with me.

No. On the two older controllers, one had a button marked Recordings and the other a button marked Media. It was never necessary to investigate a menu.

Whenever I've used the ring back service they've been excellent- the problem has been solved and often some kind of 'compensation' paid.

Eg: Ordered a Hive unit, on Prime. Didn't arrive. Contacted Amazon, replacement sent, £10 voucher and 1m Prime extension.

Wifi Access point failed after (about) 2 months. Replace sent out and prepaid return label for duff one, no fuss at all.
