Lots of American cars (and other big ticket items) are that way. It is just because parts get sourced internationally. My Chrysler had a Mitsubishi engine in it and my Mercury outboard used a Yamaha designed power head with all US parts under that. That is why the idea of a combined SAE/Metric tool set is so popular. You must have sensitive eyes, looking at the sun doesn't bother me at all. It might make it difficult to read fine text for about 5 seconds, but the eye soon recovers. I don't know why people say "don't look at the sun" - it's absolute f****ng bullshit. Your eye cannot be damaged that easily. If something is too bright, you squint.

Unfortunately the people who make displays are aiming at the TV industry and they see the traditional PC as just a smart TV. If there was a demand I suppose you could buy big 4x3s but I can't find and bigger than ~20" unless I buy an old Trinitron CRT and they weigh about 18 stone.

I really like having good night vision. As old as I am I still see very well in the dark. Certainly well enough to run my boat at night and not run over crab pots and the like.

They seem to be pretty good at catching people. If you are in your own yard it is a slam dunk. They point that FLIR at you, store the GPS coordinates and a roller is in your driveway in minutes. Even out in a field all by yourself they can watch where you go on the FLIR.
