Why do LEDs generate heat? (2025 Update)

This is the upgrade and if they tack "tactical" on it and use a thicker case it is $10-15 with the same stuff inside other than a different switch. (that does have a resistor in it for "low intensity") and a flasher.

If you had good eyes you would see the resistor like in this pix of a similar light.

The AC is on more than half the year here so you pay for that electricity twice, once coming and once going. That is why my water heater is outside.

It is really just one big room delineated by counters. Roughly 450 sq/ft or 42 sq meters.

Not sure, with the T12 tubes in it, that was ~80 watts.

This PC has a real kbd/mouse and a 20" 4x3 display. That and the TV also provide some light. My wife is the tablet person. I don't like them either.

My dog is in charge of that. When a light comes on, he goes and looks. If it is really someone or some animal, he barks. People get a different bark than raccoons. Then I know whether to get a camera or a pistol ;-)

I bought a mobile phone for £13 which said dust proof, shock proof, waterproof, military style. It's not any of those things, but it does come with a double 18650 Li Ion cycle lamp battery in it (I've never seen a phone use those), so the battery lasts forever. And there's a torch on the end too. The camera is a pitiful 0.2MP (which usually means a quarter of that - why do even decent camera manufacturers like Fuji always lie?), but it does recharge using a standard USB lead! None of this ultra tiny s*it that breaks after a few months and the socket has 50 contacts on it making it almost impossible to solder a new one in. It also takes two sim cards, which I guess is handy if I go somewhere with a s*it signal, but it seems to pick up a signal about 5 times better than my previous more expensive Samsung smartphone anyway. It only uses 2G (which I gather means it will no longer function in America as you just turned yours off). But in the UK apparently 80% of calls run on 2G anyway as our cell mast infrastructure is so s*it that you seldom get 3 or 4G.

How can you light up sky? It's infinitely far away. Or does it illuminate clouds and dust?

Bloody hell, only 26 watts of LEDs in 42 sq m? I've got 117 watts in 28 sq m. You must eat more carrots than me :-)

Ah, a proper monitor. Who the f*ck thought widescreen would be good for a computer? We need more height, like scrolling a word document or a web page. If I ever stop finding 2nd hand 4:3 monitors (I can't find new ones any more), I'll have to get an ultra wide and split it into two 4:3s.

I also can't stand trying to use the internet on anything below 19". There just isn't room.

Do the auto lights confuse him when he walks around? My cats and parrots seem to ignore lights going on and off. Although they do appreciate being able to see where they're going.

Oh, yeah, the E thing tends to only be used for Ohm's Law up to a certain point when it became V. I have no idea when. I dug up a 1994 amateur radio manual that still had I * E etc. However when they gave the formula for peak envelope power they used V on the same page. I don't remember E being used outside of the formula.

They have to use up the cheap LEDs somehow. Years ago I bought a cheap LED bicycle lamp since the trail I wanted to ride went through several old railway tunnels. The 9 or 10 LEDs were as effective as lighting a candle. I walked the bike through the tunnels. Something about trying to ride a bike in the dark with rough stone walls on either side...

Well, when you shop at China Freight... I've got a flock of 3 AAA LED lights with Cree style circuitry. 3 for $20 at CostCo. They even have the important tactical feature -- a crenelated bezel to shove into someone's puss. Ain't never going to replace the 6 D-cell Maglite for tactical advantage though.

Never try to figuer out what a gun caliber is called. They make up numbers and names that sound good.

You could throw in the 9 mm Makarov that uses .364 or .365 inch diameter bullets. Or the 380 (9 mm short) which is still .355 inches.

Even the famous 44 magnum of Dirty Harry is no where near .44 inches in diameter.

It will light up low hanging clouds

That just slows heat loss but it will still be there. There is nothing wrong with it being in an enclosure outside the HVAC envelope anyway. Also if I have a leak, no big deal.

I am a night guy. I don't like a lot of light, but because of that I see very well in the dark.

The 16x9 I have will pivot in the stand and be a 9x16 so I can rotate the display in Windows and use it as a tall thin display. You are right, scrolling documents is better that way.
