Why do LEDs generate heat? (2025 Update)

Yip, easier to delete or mark as spam. I choose when to see my doctor and dentist, not them.

Not sure what "city ST" means, but I find it annoying that it's possible to text someone in the UK and call yourself by any name you wish without a number. I get spam texts with a daft name, usually a misspelt version of a genuine company, presumably to trick the foolish into giving bank details.

advantage?

You do not have to mow the grass. Takes me over 2 hours most weeks to do mine.

I never understood it either. I find it actually painful to be surrounded by all that mental garbage constantly.

Indeed. How do they get to sleep? My sister lives in a flat in a town. First thing I noticed - I could hear word for word the neighbour's stereo. When I pointed it out she said she'd never noticed!

I mean exactly that. Some examples:

AUSTIN TX MIAMI FL DECATUR TX DENVER CO

Recently, that has been the most common caller ID for junk calls. Some others include "TOLL FREE CALL" and "Out of area" (WITH a number).

I got a junk call advertising extended vehicle "warrantees". I actually considered saying "What do you have to do with the city of Austin?" (the caller ID said "AUSTIN TX"). Then, why would I buy something from a liar?

Decent phones and/or phone companies should allow blocking as intelligently as a newsreader killfile. For example I would block anyone who did not reveal a genuine numerical number. 01526 248594 is a genuine UK landline. 07924 254869 is a genuine UK mobile. Lawyers4u and Naitonwide bank (intentionally misspelt) are not.

There are people that think it is wonderful No need for a car, walk to everything. Restaurants, entertainment, everything you need in walking distance. I was born in Philadelphia but lived in a more residential area than inner city. I'd never go back.

The government tit is a very crowded place. It would be erroneous to think that Joe Dumpsterdiver is the only hungry mouth. The prime purpose of government is to make the world safe for rent seekers while throwing a few crumbs to hoi polloi so they won't get too pissed.

About 50,000 people is a good size for a city. I'm assuming your town is within convenient distance of a larger metropolitan area, You probably wouldn't like Forsyth;

It's about 100 miles from Billings which is where you would go to do most shopping. There is a decent grocery store in Miles City, 40 miles in the other direction.

Kirkpatrick Sale and others have debated on the optimum size for a city and consider 50 to 100 thousand enough to have some variety, support a range of local businesses, and still be small enough to be manageable.

A place like NYC is fun -- for a couple of days.

Roundup... I'm down to 45 minutes or so depending on whether I drag out the string trimmer to clean up around the edges.

I never legally lived in Boston but I would rent a room if I had a contract in the city rather than commute from New Hampshire. I enjoyed walking around the city but I was also headed north come Friday. Every thing seemed to become a major project and time sink.

Yeah but I have to put up with the damn coyotes yipping and howling at night. Then there are the train whistles. I must be 6 miles from the crossing but in the quiet of a still night I can here it and the rumbling.

I'm not complaining but while I'm not the man I was 50 years ago, hearing loss ain't a problem.

Each text obviously wouldn't refer to the same doctor and time. And it's even more helpful for them to use texts with the ones reminding you that you are due for an appointment, these might be sent in bulk. Try phoning 1000 people instead of texting and see how long it takes.

If I was sending spam, I'd obviously use BCC. Your ISP couldn't see I'd sent it to more than two people. But my ISP should block it before it goes out.

Why would I answer my phone when it claims I'm dialling it myself? In fact wouldn't that just confuse the phone exchange? You can't phone yourself.

Having to use a car is a very small price to pay for some bloody peace and quiet!

With 7 billion of us on the planet, we are certainly not endangered, so should receive no handouts whatsoever.

Who cares, it is a robot. You confirm by pressing 1 and you are out of there.

I don't want to answer right now. I can be texted when I'm busy/out/etc then reply when I'm ready to.

Imagine this newsgroup where we had to reply in realtime.

3348 here, containing 1 small supermarket. 20,730 in the next one, a mile away. It has 5 full size supermarkets.

All I care is having where I can buy most food within about 15 miles. After that, as few people as possible. Non-food, well that comes by post doesn't it? I buy everything that isn't food on Ebay and it comes to my door.

Er, people browse the web all the time, which requires scrolling up and down, even people who sit on facebook all day - they need more height, not more width.

I prefer ultrawide to do that, or each page is too narrow.

32" for $100?!?! Holy s*it that's cheap.
