Things worked out today so I could go for a ride. I stopped in Clarks, NE for gas. The Bosselman Pump and Pantry had a sign saying there was a $500 sign up bonus. Bosselmans is a convenience store chain like Caseys. There's a trike shop there in Clarks.

Many places are fighting to get people to work. With the unemployment and government money people are making more by not working, especially some low paying jobs.

Just saw where one of the fast food places locally is shutting down on Sundays because they can not get enough help. Many of them have up to $ 1000 sign up bonus.

Cape Coral got in trouble because all the trash men left and they couldn't find anyone to replace them.

That will change when it's safe to go back to work. Particularly if they start paying a decent living wage.

They will be back when they can't make $600 a week staying home. Fast food joints never closed and they haven't turned out to be the hot spots everyone feared they would be.

They may just have to up the pay to what the doctors and plumbers make.

They do make about what plumbers make. Starting around $17 an hour as a tail gunner and can make up to around $40. There is a $1500 signing bonus right now for unskilled trainees and $3000 for a CDL driver. In SW Florida that is righteous bucks for driving a truck.

Waste collection has always been a fairly high paid job, particularly up north where the unions set ther wage and the government pays it. There is nobody in that negotiation who really tries to reduce the cost. If a politician doesn't go along with the program, they get rid of him and find one more compliant.
