OT: inconsiderate shoppers

There is a charge going on somewhere. It is probably buried in the purchase price. In the US it is typically 2% on an all electronic transaction. The merchant eats it and passes it on in his overall pricing. I have heard that handling cash is just about as expensive for them tho.

Is it worth the time needed to type the pin in, for a 5p transaction. Just wave the card and done. I do it so often, I have to think hard to remember my pin when, I do need it. I have my wallet screened so it only works when I take it out to use it. What is not to like?

And I see no reason contactless should cost anyone less than PIN.

Many are. Even good tasting plants that won't upset your tummy at all. They just kill your liver, or your kidneys, or stop your heart.

Yew and lantana berries will kill you if you eat the seeds. - taste good too. Many mushrooms taste good but will kill you either quickly or slowly.

What kind of scrapyards are you referring to? If you scrap a car, yes some want paperwork, although there's one here that just lets me fill in the V5 myself (saves him the bother). But if you're talking about non-vehicles (like the hot water tank I scrapped), they don't want any ID at all. I give them the tank, they weigh it, then give me cash.

You don't seem to understand. All that law does is prevent the shop fro= m charging you extra if you use a card. Pretty stupid law actually, why= shouldn't they pass on the bank's charge?

But it certainly doesn't stop the bank from charging the shop, so the sh= op then has to put up the purchase price, for everyone. Using a card is= simply costing everyone money. You might think you get 2% cashback, bu= t you're just making the goods cost more in the first place. Look up th= e green stamps (or something like that) scandal from decades ago.

If I've seen it happen, then it happened. You cannot refute that.

Are you some kind of shopaholic? I probably make a purchase about twice a week, and most of those are online - so no PIN or swipe.

No, you don't have to get a screen wallet. I have two bits of I assume metalised plastic one on either side of that part of my wallet where such cards go. Simples.

And by the way, did ye ever follow my suggestion of googling for "feeding bread to ducks" ?? And if not why not.

Even simpler for me with my non-contactless card. I just put the card straight into my pocket.

Because 1st hand experience shows me that the ducks are fine. There are so many myths on the internet I just don't believe half I read, like "apple seeds are poisonous to parrots".

Well chocolate certainly is, and also to dogs. 300gm of plain chocolate will do the trick, as any vet will tell you. But I expect you don't believe that either.

I don't believe chocolate is harmful, as I've fed it to my birds on many occasions (not on purpose, they usually take a piece off me and I don't stop them). As for 300g, that's a huge amount, even for a human, to consume in one go. One square of a bourneville bar for example is about 4g. Anything will kill anything in large enough quantities. Try swallowing 50 gallons of water.

Plenty of us do, even if you don't.

That isnt done in a factory, its been done by primitive savages for millennia now.

Interesting question is how they managed to work out how to do it without killing too many.

Presumably the most stupid that couldn't work out how to eat them didn't do as well as the ones that could work out how to eat them so the smarter ones won out.

Much more convenient to not have to stuff the card into the machine, type the pin in, just wave the card at the terminal.

It actually costs them more. Contactless is technically a credit transaction even when done with a debit card. Those have a higher merchant fee. And only the yanks have those very high fees. Its much lower elsewhere.

Its different if you show up with heaps of what is clearly the sort of multipair phone cable tho.

And with sheet lead that has clearly come off some church roof etc.
