A few years back the company I was getting home insurance from closed up shop in my state and I had to look elsewhere.
I called up most of the local places and they would not even quote me because my furnace was over 20 years old and they did not like the look of the roof.
Roof is fine but the shingles never did lie quite flat due to it being a second layer.
Finally went with a company that insures what they call sub-standard houses and the price was about the same as I had been paying anyway.
I now have a new furnace and as a matter of fact have a newer water heater and had all electrical upgrade. Checked the date of the roof and see it is now 25 years old, so plan on getting it replaced last year.
Since I have car insurance with GEICO I decided to get an estimate and only had to fill out a form on-line and they did not ask any questions about the age of the furnace, only asked about roof.
The price was the same as I'm paying now but they are giving greater coverage. They are giving me replacement cost rather than market cost which they figure is $50k higher.
Looks like a good deal, does anyone have GEICO home insurance?
At one time I believe they only covered cars.
