Kitchener is ~ 1 hour drive < in good freeway traffic > from GTA " Greater Toronto Area " .. where you can bid on a little old starter bungalow in that price range ... We have a < totally unnecessary > federal election under-way and one of the issues is legislation to limit the foreign buyers & speculator involvement .. ... and, of course affordable subsidised housing ..

I saw on tv they had bungalows** about an hour west of NYC for 350,000!!
**One.5 stories, 3 or 4 rooms on first floor, pitched roof so second floor is about half the size of the first floor.
I couldnt' understand my own text. This meant 1.5 floors.
I figured out what you meant so I guess I am starting to understand "Mik speak". I am sure there is a real estate term for that but I am not a Realtor© I do know one place that does have a half high floor, the CaDZan Mansion in Sarasota. (Ringling Museum) The 4th floor was the kid's play room and the ceilings were about 5' high. John Ringling had his painters paint the ceiling like the circus wagons. I am not sure if that is on the tour or not. It was one of my inspector projects. Katherine Harris (of Bush v Gore fame) had that as her pet project. I was in a meeting with her once about it before anyone knew who she was.
