An HVAC contactor (who was a friend of a friend) installed my
Mitsubishi minisplit Heat pump for a very reasonable price, but told me
that he did not have his equipment to do "purge and leak test". He is
not from the area so I can't get him back over anytime soon....so he
advised me to call a local HVAC person to come out and do the "purge
and leak test".
I admit that I wanted to see if the thing worked, so I installed the 15
amp breaker in the Circuit Breaker board and turned in on. I got the
standard blinky error light that indicated the outside and indoor units
were not communicating. I know for a fact the wiring is correct. I
even have stranded wire for the communication wire...anyway....
I will be calling a certified HVAC contractor in to do this purge and
leak test next week, but now I'm wondering if the guy even hooked the
thing up right.
I guess my question is, is the Purge process with a vaccuum pump
necessary for the thing to work to begin with and could that be
responsible for communication error light? I only turned it on because
I thought the purge process was only to make sure there were no
impurities, etc. in the pipe.
thanks for any insight.
sir you are living proof a facking moron is born every minute
yeppers, even tho the moron installing it wasnt finished,
I plugger 'er in, the idiot lights winked at me in recognition,
& thats about it.....
Sir you give HVAC people a bad name. I hope there are more mature and
reputable HVAC professionals on the board that will answer the question
in an appropriate way. Otherwise, you are doing your profession a
disservice with your idiot response.
You had a friend do the initial install of a minisplit for you that you
bought someplace. He did the rough in, but he didn't bring (or doesn't own)
his recovery system, vacuum pump, or nitrogen tank, or gas. He said, "I've
done most of the install work, call a local guy to do the startup".
You wanted to play, so you powered it up - even put a breaker in that was
likely intentionally left out to prevent damage. The system wasn't ready to
be powered up, and is showing an error indication that you think you've
You tell us. You can see what has been done. We can't.
Purge (evacuation) starts with an empty system. Take it from there.
Now I know what you are talking about... Some of us make spelling and
punctuation errors occasionally - That could give a "bad name" - like LUX.
Let me correct his spelling errors, and clarify a few points so even you can
understand what he was explaining to you.....
Sir, you are living proof that a fucking moron is born every minute.
Yes sir, even though the moron installing it wasn't finished yet, I
installed the circuit breaker that was left out to prevent damage, and the
idiot lights winked at me as though they knew me.
That's the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Now go replace the thermostat. Lowes has them on sale.
