onions planted yesterday

Mine's basically planted but I'm well south of you. Surpisingly tomatoes still getting bigger green ones. I guess cropping next week. I thought some this week.

Got my tomatoes in, eggplant in, peppers in. Yesterday I got my seeds in too: cucumbers and zucchini.

i'm not quite understanding this post of yours. i may be too tired... :)

today i ended up going outside to weed having decided to hold off on planting until the next break in the weather. the garden i weeded has needed it done for a month or more and i just wasn't able to get out there so now it is done and the rains have come along to give all the gardens some water.

i only thought it was going to take me a few hours to weed, but it was such a nice day that i took my time and enjoyed myself completely and it took almost four hours and then i did a few other things in other gardens like picking some strawberries, weeding out some bedstraw and burying some banana peels and other veggie scraps.

then after resting a bit i had to go bury another chipmunk which was caught in a rat trap using a little peanut butter and a raisin. i've gotten my money's worth out of that raisin as it is the fifth chipmunk i caught with it. i did reset the trap but now that it is raining it might melt away or the trap might get ruined. my brother bought us some bucket top flip traps to use for the chipmunks but so far they have only caught one. when we get overrun with chipmunks it can get pretty crazy around here. one year i caught over 50 of them in a few weeks. so this year is quite tame in comparison to that. the flip traps will also work for mice so i'm hoping to get them reset and reloaded with bait in some new locations where mice are known to run. now that they're getting rained on and have aired out for a few days i think they will only gain in effective- ness...

Good! We are getting really loud thunder storms, off and on all weekend.

For me, it's Norwat rats. Occasional squirrels but they mostly ignore the veggies.

i've gotten three more chipmunks and finally could not find the raisin i was using to bait them - had to replace it.

groundhogs do a lot more damage here to the gardens inside the fences as they can get through or over that fencing (Mom bought the wrong kind and i've not got the funds right now to put up some different fencing that would exclude them).

today we had a fairly young deer come through and i was able to watch it for a while until it got to a spot where i could scare it off. i don't want to scare them when they might panic and run into a fence. at one point it was looking into some pieces of mirrors we have on one of our yard art works. it was looking and then sniffing at it. i hope it doesn't come back. we've not had much of any deer tracks around recently so i'm glad they've kept away. i don't want any of them to think that this is a spot to hang out. we had a family of three hang out here two years ago and they ate about everything i had planted in some gardens that were not fenced.

I've heard deer can be quite a pest for gardeners! They are in parts of VB, but not where I am. Even if they were, the 6ft wood fence would stop them. We also get bears from time to time, but not near me.

For my area, norway rats (those are the big ones, can bring down a small dog), squirrels, regular tree rats, bunnies, possums, eagles (yup, national bald eagles), raptors, owls and a bazillion birds. Cardinals like to dive bomb sunflowers. (grin, once they do flocks of birds will develop vieing for the seeds).

My father described watching deer, just standing next to the fence, suddenly hopping over the fence in one motion. He had to go up to 8-10 feet or so to keep them out.

Those are probably the bigger ones right?

I would not assume that, but feel free to run the test and report the results here.
