Get thee to a library and pick up a copy of some of these books for style ideas:

Aronson's "Encyclopedia of Furniture" Sotheby's "Concise Encyclopedia of Furniture" Swedberg's "Collector's Encyclopedia of American Furniture" Warman's "Furniture"

then get a copy of Joyce's "Encyclopedia of Furnituremaking" to learn how to do the woodworking stuff properly.

and then get a copy of Lloyd Gheen's "Upholstery Techniques Illustrated" to learn out how to do the soft stuff properly.

Or just Google for "upholstered furniture plans".

G'luck!

Just ask JOAT ... he will be more than happy to accommodate you. Hehe.

... and don't forget to duck!

Tip: do a Google search on "sofa plans".

Get a copy of James' Upholstery, a Complete Course" The frame is just simple mortice and tenon, half-lap or bridle joints, done in beech, ash, cheap maple or even softwoods. All the difficult stuff is in the fabric.

It's also hard to find upholstery suppliers. If you're in the UK (NTL user?) then try J A Milton for mailorder.
