I don't recall anyone bringing up Chromebooks in this thread other than you.

The Intel i5 series CPU's are perfectly acceptable for the vast majority of the general public, indeed as are the i3 series.

For the remaining few (and for the corporate users), the i7 or Zen/Ryzen processors are suitable.

Of course, for those running Linux, any CPU will likely outperform Windows signifincantly.

I bought an older open box 2nd gen i5 then, it is 4 core, 2.9 Ghz.

My display is a 15" LCD monitor from the early 2000's. 1024X768 display resolution. Of course, it could handle more, but I hate the look of those super wide screen 16X9 aspect ratio monitors. I installed the 32 bit version for some 16 bit 3.x era ancient software that I randomly used. It's not as important now, but I don't feel like wiping the system and installing fresh. I checked, it's 4 core 2.9 GHz.

This is my only computer that is used regularly, nothing newer. I can't say how to define "important" things, but I don't do online banking period. The most "personal" financial things I do are occasional use of PayPal. Otherwise, it's for e-mail, research, and light entertainment. I'm not a very technically inclined person. I could easily be, but I just don't care to be.

When Windows 7 eventually becomes unusable, I'll likely switch to Linux on the same hardware. I tried to buy big enough with the 4 core processor at the time. I won't do a Chromebook or the like. I don't do gaming or anything resource-intensive.

I don't know anything about the stock market, so I'm just curious... what happened to the stock that you bought? Does it just "go away", or is there some kind of potential with said French company that bought what was left?

My TWA stock finally disappeared from my brokerage statements just last year (20 years after it went out of business).

What did the statements say prior to the disappearance? Did it show the number of shares that you "owned" and a market value of $0?

It listed the CUSIP number and the par value ($0.01/share). It didn't show the (delisted) symbol.

Did they list it as a sale? If so, you should have been able to take a $398 long term loss for 2020.

Did they credit your account for the $2?

Or worse yet, were they charging you any fees for the $2/year for 20 years? If the $0.01 was just a placeholder with no real value then they owe you a refund of fees - plus compounded interest, of course. ;-)

I couldn't deal with that size screen or resolution. My laptop screen is 15" (but much higher resolution) but I don't do any serious work with it's display. I have a couple of 24", 4K displays for anything CAD-like.

IOW, a Chromebook would match your needs perfectly.
