in reading the story, the stupidity of the captain sunk the boat. the fish had nothing to do with it.

they hand the keys to a stink boat to a congenital dumb f*ck stink boat operator, they must ascertain that the dumb f*ck has no more that three (3) brain cells and at least two (2) cells must be brain dead.
In a race to the bottom between an ameba and a dumb f*ck stink boater, the dumb f*ck stink boater wins going away.

Hard to say if the fish won or not. He might still be hooked. Makes no difference if it is hooked to a floating boat or a sunk boat.

Well, in deference to Lew, I think his profanity was spelled correctly. :)
But because the boat has a motor the captain was a fumb duck. Had this been going on off of a sail boat.....no captain could have prevented the mishap in this perfect storm.
