Wooden windows

Has anyone come across a company that will make a up a wooden window in a non-standard size for anything other than silly money. The local joinery firm have quoted about =A3500 unglazed (it's a 2ft x 3ft casement window with a single opening). Magnets want about =A3650 double- glazed.

Is it possible to widen the existing opening to a standard size?

Try asking P.N.A. Joinery. Their contact details are here:

fitted some windows (approx 3ft x 5ft) for me 8 years ago. In those days they cost me £200 each for 10. These were fitted, double glazed. Superb service. I was very impressed and the windows are lasting well.

================================== I can't help with a company to do the job but I would suggest that you visit one or two larger timber yards in your area. Some of these yards stock all the various sections needed to repair or make complete windows - sill, mullion, transom, sash etc. If you can find the ready-machined sections then making a window is a basic woodworking job. Even if you can't do this yourself a competent handyman should be able to make one of the required size from stock machined parts in a few hours.

Where in the world are you? if your near derby i have a contact that is very reasonable but doesn't fit them, just makes 'em.

I just had purpose built sash windows made up for me here in Hackney - about £450 each, if I remember, primed and glazed for 2 sashes and the sash box.

I'm down on the Oxfordshire/Bucks borders and I think it's the area that's pushing prices up - too many thatched cottages and London salaries.

unless you travel this way often, I'd dig out your local newspaper and yellow pages and do some ringing around for more quotes.

Google Lattice windows and ask them. They are near you.
