Wood burning stoves - what is the state of the art?

Are you doing this as an engineering thesis or do you want something that works well?

My guess it may not have been done because the efficency gained is outweighed by the additional complexity - more to go wrong - and the old if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

You have to look at a flat/house as a complete unit. Is there any advantage to having a super-efficent boiler if you have drafty doors/ windows? Or little/no insulation?.

Are you trying to get another 10% out only to waste 50% of the heat you make?

Is it a bit like saying a car will do 55mpg on the m'way. But throw in start stop, putting your foot down or going up any sort of incline and the (averaged) fuel consumption shoots up.

And like an engine the stove will have a narrow band of efficent operation. Perhaps the reason you can get high efficency using an "industrial" boiler is that can be run at maximum efficency

I guess it comes down to do you want to have an efficent sealed home you could heat with a candle or do you want plenty of fresh air and throw another few logs on.

My experience of wood-burning stoves is they create a huge amount of heat - certainly enough to "waste" by having windows open even in the depths of winter.
