Wiki Suggestion

For some reason my under "blanket" has started to leech its blue dye, as a consequence my bedding, towels and flannels are all turning blue. I have been searching online for white replacements before I turn blue and this suggestion is a result of my search.



The wiki needs an interpreter for old codgers, along the lines of a TV show I had the misfortune to flick through once.



You ordered a blanket. You received a wincyette sheet.



You searched for an under blanket. The results were all for "throws".



You searched for a mattress protector. The size for the double bed version was 30CM x 60CM x 60CM.



You searched for a sheet. The results were all for fitted sheets, deep and otherwise.



You searched for a bedding set. The results were all for fitted sheets, deep and otherwise.



You searched for a pillow case The results were all for bedding sets



You searched for a cotton pillow case The results were all for fitted sheets, deep and otherwise.



Is it just me?

Google, Amazon et al are desperate to railroad you towards things they want you to see (pay them most money), rather than what you're looking for.

Try ebay, which respects advanced search terms like:

"exact phrase" "must" "have" "all" "these" "words" "in" "any" "order"

-"must not have this phrase"

-must -not -have -any -of -these -words (one,or,more,of,these,words)

eg some examples from my saved searches:

(barrel,barrell) (whisky, whiskey, wine) -blocks -chips makita (track,rail) adapter -router -jigsaw (tn421,tn-421,tn423,tn-423) (used,empty) toner

and they can also be refined by category, make, price, location etc.

Once you've found something suitable, you can always look for it on other websites, or take other words in the listing to use in further searches.

The latter is handy as a key to 'what other people call this thing' - eg if you searched for 'counterpane' there are 318 results, many of which also have 'bedspread' in the title. There are 43,000 results searching for 'bedspread'.

My sister-in-law who doesn't have a computer asked me a while ago if I could find some "ordinary warm sheets in pink" because all her local shops seem to only have the fitted ones.

I have a file showing me how to use regex on eBay which is enormously helpful, I might try it on Amazon via Google and see if that combination works.
