Where to buy 1" aluminium "channel"?

Oct 21, 2011 7 Replies

I'd like to buy about 6 mtrs of 1"x1"x1" aluminium channel (i.e., hollow square-section, but with one face missing) to fit snugly over the top of a wooden gate made of 1" T&G timber. Where can I buy this? Has anyone seen it in any of the DIY sheds?

Thanks..

one.

I think I used someone else, similar, who even cut it to a cutting list I supplied.

That sounds like Metal Supermarkets, I've recommended them on here before. Best found by local web search or yellow pages, the website is shocking but they do carry a lot of stock and do cuts (used to be free for cuts).

of 120mm alli rod, local fims are after about 8 quid per slice, only if i buy 10 or more slices, that place wants about 3.50 a slice, no minimum ammount,

unfortunately they also want £14.99 delivery, even if i order a aingle slice, or some 2.5 meter long rods of 20mm bar,

they also do cut sheets at good prices, i am making a train sim driving desk, so need some bits of 3mm alli, 150 x 250mm, they will cut that and sell for about a quid, no faffing about with surcharges for the rest of the sheet etc.

Look familiar - think that must be where I got mine.

The bigger B&Q's and Wickes stock it AFAIK.

The prices the sheds charge for metal is outrageous. A sheet of 1mm steel

- about a square foot - cost about half that of a full 6x4' sheet. ;-(

Metal supermarkets - or Ebay?
