What is the best phone/net package in BT land?

John Rumm explained on 22/12/2018 :

On the very few occasions I have needed to ring them, I have had brilliant accurate service, from English support staff whom I could understand and they could understand me. No of the usual run around.

The only problem is the wait time to get through has gradually increased. I don't mind waiting patiently, if at least any issue gets solved when I do get through. Much better than getting the run around and no solution.

Don't you mean that BT sport is subsidised by BT BB customers?

but they don't downgrade you either

I have free calls to LL included in the basic package

they now have a new tariff that includes LL and Mobile but it costs more.

they didn't force me to move to the new tariff at higher cost, so I keep my free calls to LLs and the lower cost

wait times have seriously deteriorated recently

calling at 8am solves that

but it's not just plusnet

I have the misfortune to inherit a BG account at my new house and they now expect *everybody* to contact them by email.

Of course it's impossible to contact them by email if you don't know the number of the account that they have opened for "The occupier 23 XXX street" after they were told by the previous occupant to close the account (they decided that I didn't need to be sent a "welcome" letter).

So you have to ring up - over an hour to get an answer

Well no, not as much as they used to of course there is Virgin but there are getting to be a few fibre to the premises suppliers around now.

They've been digging up a few villages out our way plus a few small WISP's here and there..

Up to a Gigabit is available..

Yes they could tighten up on their installers a tad or so. Mind you we had to have ADSL out in another location and it took their installers Six attempts to get it all going. One of them I had to show him how to use his tone tracer;(..

VM dug a nice duct in for us under the drive:)

I know. If you are on Sky and want BT sport then through Plusnet it is much cheaper.

Is that what they want you to do?

I usually lean on the 9 button before they get that far.

Same here. 14/15 years with them now with no comlaints whatsoever (and very good prices too).

I was dreading the BT-effect after the takeover, but quite franckly haven't noticed anything.

Well they take longer to answer the phone, and the support line is no longer 24/7, but it certainly could have been worse!

Yes it wss te one time when I was bored and amused enough to follow his intructions

He obviously wanted me to open a up a connmection to some ratware server or somesuch. I didn't tell him I dont have BT broadband and am all linux. Not until 15 minutes of wasting his time had elapsed...

Not really - Hull Telephones had the UK's first digital exchange and at one time was worth billions, due to its share price zooming from 50p to £17 in the 2000 dotcom boom.

Plus we are the only place in the UK not to have red 'phone boxes.

Another problem for the billing people at PlusNet who seem able to charge twice for that option, and take a couple of months to sort out repayment. Not an option I'll be renewing next year.

I tell them I don't understand computers but will go and get Fred who does and put the phone down on the desk. It keeps them tied up and from mithering someone who might be taken in for a couple of minutes.

Most times my answerphone or answering with dead air filters them out.

It's also discounted for Plusnet customers from time to time.

Not so.

Not in the UK though.

Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are ***not*** part of the UK but are self-governing dependencies of the Crown."
