Serious question, I'm not fat nor is swmbo, but our dog is and on a exercise and diet regime to loose around 1/3 of her weight. What normally happens to the skin, when weight is lost - does it shrink back, or just hang in loose clumps?
What happens to the surplus skin, if you slim?

Initially it just hangs loose in folds. It may eventually shrink back, I don't know, never had the problem.

It takes up folds for a time depending on how quickly the volume decreases and how much much layered fat is attached.
Better to lose the weight over a long time, allows the skin to accommodate.
The latter in humans. You can pay to have it chopped off. No idea about dogs.
Dog turns into a Shar Pei breed and barks in Chinese.
Depends. If its an older dog, a bit like us, skin does not have the elasticity it nonce did and you can get a lot of it hanging. Not knowing a lot about how Dog skin works in different breeds I can't say more, but when I had a lab it did seem to go back to fit the new size fairly fast, after all we replace our cells all the time except for brain and eye and a few other places.
