We had our roof replaced last November. Today I noticed a crack in the bathroom ceiling has widened and the PB had bulged down no water coming through though. Went up into the loft to check out the reason and found the wankers had managed to disconnect the boiler flue which goes through the roof so the condensate has simply been going into the loft so the insulation round the flue and over the bulge is now soaked through, hence the widening crack and bulge.
The worst thing about it is that I cannot mate the two parts of the flue together. The flue leaves the boiler vertically and has a slight offset before going out through the tiles vertically or it used to. They have managed to tile around the exit point causing the final part of the flue to be so offset no amount of jiggling will get the two parts to mate. My dilemma now is who do I get to fix it and how? The one lot I do not want back are the wankers, we had enough grief with them the first time round.
As far as I can see there are two options a) get a gas man in and insert a small section of flue in the offset so the two parts can be aligned or b) get some roofers in to rearrange the tiles so the opening is moved over enabling the two existing parts of the flue to slot together, I do have some spare tiles if any need replacing. I am inclined to go for option a) as it would mean as little disturbance of the roof as possible and even if the roof opening needs altering hopefully the boiler man would do it anyway as it would have been originally done by the boiler man when initially installed.
In the meantime I have managed to align the elements of the flue together even though they will not slot together and the part through the roof is at a crazy angle the plume is going through the upper part of the flue. I am in two minds whether to temporarily gaffer tape the two pieces together for a better seal or will having to remove it later cause more problems. I think I might see how soon I can get someone in to look at it. I would value any opinions on how to proceed?
