uPVC doors & security

That's what I've specced. I have no problems with the locks and the securing mechanisms on the locking edge of the door, it's the hinge side I'm concerned about.

Well I'm a bit anti secure doors, as you say it depends what you have worth nicking, but the damage they can cause to a really secure door is going to be greater than a bit of splintered wood. Apparently they melted their way in to a house in Newmalden through the upvc and then managed to crack the glass. Brian

Mr Plod the security advisor came round to us once. He told us the tale of a jeweller who fitted steel doors, and bars on all the windows.

I bought a house, over 40 years ago, from a police sergeant. The only thing securing the outward opening timber French door was a bathroom door bolt, which would not have delayed anybody for more than a few moments.

Those last 2 words were all the security he needed.

many years ago, when I worked in the motor trade, we had a few customers that were policemen. One day, another customer started asking what the best way to stop a car being stolen was. The copper started with the usual ... lock doors, engage steering lock, crooklock, keep valuables out of sight, etch windows, etc etc. Customer kept on "but what if...." ing, until (to be fair with more patience than I would have had) the copper just said "that's what insurance is for".

If scrotes have really taken a fancy to something you own, then it's gone. And if you get in the way, so are you.

Not necessarily. One car I retuned to fidmn te dashboard wires all exposed and buggered, byt te car was till there - no rotors arm

Another one instead of being stolen - it was a mideget - had a window boox dumped in it. Or maybe they were trying to steal the window box and discovered that it had no base, so threw it into te car instead.

THat was in London. But I had a car (Opel Manta coupé)stolen in Brussels. they simply loaded it on a trailer and drove it to a warehouse and started dismantling it. I got most of it back. No seats, no ECU, no bonnet, no wheels. I rebuilt it with S/H parts.
