Did I misunderstand your picture? I thought the fuse holder was near the incoming mains cable. On all the chargers I've seen that fuse has been the mains fuse.

If the charger output is 5A max how come the fuse spec is 10A? That makes no sense.

Of that I have no idea, thats what is on the charger. The fuse is at the output lead to the scooter.

To previous replies it is 2 x 12v batteries in series. As these things only have around 20 miles range on full charge it would not be practible to charge with a normal charger for the end user as accessing the batteries would be a pain, ok as a one off but not for longer term usage.

Oh well it's the output fuse then.

It's the weight that is important rather than Ah though there is a relationship between the two.

I based the "fiver" on about 5 kg/battery and 50p/kg for weighing in, pessimistic so as not to raise the OPs hopes of retiring on the proceeds too much. 12 Ah SLAs come in at about 4 kg, 17 Ah about 6 kg, 24 Ah ~ 8 kg. I got 62p/kg for lead acid batteries about this time last year.

Just seen that they are 30+ Ah so proably around 13 kg each so maybe £15 weighed in.

And / or as a permanent solution (especially if the current charger is faulty).

However, I understand it might need more electrical / electronics knowledge than the OP has. ;-)

Maybe I ought to run the 8 x 6V 200Ah Crompton traction monoblocks that I've currently got sitting in my electric moke. ;-)
