Lets me login ok, shows account details fine. I didn't go through the rigmarole of forgotten password, but I did reset my password after login, and it let me do that ok.

Sometimes if you are getting unexpected behaviour on a web site, try a different browser, and/or turn off any ad/script/tracking blocking software just in case. If that still fails, then a malware scan on the computer itself.

Or try rebooting your machine to clear out the cache.

Sometimes a web page will not work until you have accepted their cookies and sometimes the acceptance link is not all that obvious.

Or just try again later. Websites break frequently, and you can't tell what's happening behind the scenes - the DB server or whatever may be down for maintenance causing some features to not work.

I have tried all the suggestions above and still no joy.

I've given up and asked them to delete my account.

Life is too short to waste time with web sites that don't work as they should.

Which one can argue is fine when you can source the same items elsewhere at a similar price.

However it would concern me if I could not access a site that everyone else has no problem accessing. Since this *could* point to a range of potential problems specific to your circumstance, such as a problem with your computer, or your ISP, or perhaps just your account with that vendor. It would seem worthwhile working out which since it may come and bite you later!

Yes, John, you are possibly correct but after using the WWW since it was invented I can now recognise when a firm's web site is not working as it should.

It's no loss not having web access to Toolstation, if necessary I can cycle round the block to their shop and buy what I need over the counter.

I probably won't, though as the've wasted too much of my precious time.

Just out of interest, did you get a reset link from your email exchange and try to use that to change your original, forgotten password?

Have you tried registering with a different email address?

No, like I said, life's too short and anyway, I don't need to be registered to purchase from them.

Toolstation ! The email entered is already associated with a customer account. Please login to continue. [ which will be me having ordered in he past, ok ] Login does not work, so I try 'reset password ' - it won't let me do it But it will not allow me to reset password to try and get in ???

I have twice encountered the situation of a platform change bringing more stringent password requirements. OK, no problem there except that both have refused to accept valid credentials where the old password did not meet the new standard. Neither would reset the password.

Both required human intervention, which was easy in one case but not in the other.

That's life now.

B and Q have been the worse for this...

They don't allow "special" characters in the passwords BUT when resetting a password they will accept anything you type in without question but then reject it when you try and log in with a message that just says " password/user not recognised" if it contains one of the (unpublished) characters that are not allowed.

Some web sites disable some buttons/links (forgotton password etc.) if you haven't first accepted cookies. On some sites it's not that obvious that the cookie button is just on a small banner at the top or bottom of the page.

I encountered a chinese site that refused to take my username after an upgrade. The one I had used had a hyphen in it.

It wouldnt allow me to create a new account if I took the hyphen out , either. So I gave up using it

My wife's email address contains an underscore which will be allowed when creating an account but then rejected when she tries to log in.
