The last straw - chipped enamel on new steel bath

Having just finished what has been a nightmare bathroom job from start to finish I dropped a spanner on the bath and chipped it (embarrassing thing to do I know). The only thing left to do was to seal in the bath - so there is still a chance of replacing it but that is 240 quid. The makers of the bath (Kaldewei are sending a repair kit for free which is great - and says a lot about them) but am I dreaming to think that it is repairable - should I take the hit now befre finalising the fitting to re-order? :-(

Also - does anyone know if the steel is normally galvanised or similar or will it likely rust?

Cheers

John

There are almost invisible repair kits out there. Epoxy based, and quite hard wearing. It is repairable. And the repair kit is always handy for the next spanner.

I saw a couple advertised and they involved sanding down the finished area - that sounded bad as it was that sort of surface that prompted the new bath! The one that the bath manufacturers are sending is a small bottle like a bottle of tippex so I can only assume is it some 'enamel paint'

Thanks again

Do I take it that you don't have accidental damage on your buildings insurance that you can claim on ????? Stuart

I do but the replacement cost is in insurance terms 'only' 230 quid - I could see the a combination of an excess plus the added premium next year coming to more...

I thought for a minute that I might have been covered on the credit card - turns out though that mine is about the only sodding Lloyds card without cover!

Well, I used "Tubby" to restore the surface on our bath.

There were problems due to manufacturing defects of the roller, but the finish has lasted well for over 6 months and I got a replacement FOC to do a proper job when the weather improves
