Decorating the kitchen is next on the list;

Do these premium price paints 'do what they say on the tin'? Or is it all marketing hype?

I know these sorts of paints have existed in the professional paint market for some time.

Also that Wickes do a supertough type (double normal price):

Can't comment on their effectiveness, but doubt the professional market would buy snake oil.

I used Crown or Dulux (can't recall which) specialist Kitchen/Bathroom paint for the kitchen ceiling. Apart from being harder to apply and it having a poorer finish[1] I've not noticed any difference. I'll stick to acrylic eggshell for Kitchens/Bathrooms from now on.

[1] It was thicker than standard emulsion and, even diluted, the brush marks don't disappear when it dries.

Eggshell is way tougher than emulsion. Its long been used where extra durability is needed.

AFAIK all but the lowliest emulsions are washable without colour fade [from washing].
