SOT: icons on home screen (W11)

Generally speaking if you drag a link from the edge of the browser's address bar it will create a link that matches the default icon specified by the web site if it specifies one. Otherwise you get an icon that matches your default web browser. However if you were to change your default browser, then *all* web links on the desktop will usually be updated to look like the icon for the browser.

One way back would be to open the affected link, and then drag a link back from the browser to replace the one on the desktop. That will probably restore the web site's preferred icon.

I will try this. I did use an unusual method to get the icon to the desktop.

Thanks, but what do you mean by 'drag a link'? Anything I do seems to create the Google-based icon. Certainly, the three dots keep it within the family.

visit the site in your chosen browser, drag from the icon at the left of the addr bar onto the desktop

Any I create that way make a shortcut that launches my default browser (firefox) even if they were dragged from chrome.

You can create a shortcut that launches the edge browser, e.g

microsoft-edge:

but I'm not aware that google chrome registers its own protocol handler like that

What is your "unusual method"?

Right click the desktop > New > Shortcut > Browse
