Removing paint from stonework

A stone wall adjacent to my house has been graffiti-ised the other day with what looks like aerosol paint. What is the best quick way of getting rid of it? The stone appears to be quite hard.

It is an old stone wall along a railway line but it's pointless expecting that NetworkRail will be interested in cleaning it off. The quickest way is to try to get rid of it myself especially as its presence is likey to attract more of the same.

Thanks

Steve.

water blasting with a pressure washer gets most off, next step is sand blast (can be sand with water from a pressure washer)

Hi,

Try a bit of paint stripper as well as pressure washing, but try an inconspicious area first and wear protection. Even thick soap will soften paint, but it takes a while

A wax based anti graffiti coating or maybe even something like waxoyl will help remove any more that appears.

cheers, Pete.

It may be worth a call to your local council? We have a Graffiti-Busters here in Chester, and when I rang about an obscene aerosol spray job on the side of my house, they came round within 2 days & removed it- don`t know how, as I was at work at the time, but they did the biz.. Of course, if its not actually your own property, it might be a bit difficult, but its worth a try? Apart from that I haven`t a clue how to physically remove the stuff.

I watched a council contractor removing some the other day. Take a digital snap, brush on some kind of detergent (no smell that I could detect), hose off, take another digital snap. 10 minutes.

so if you go and add obscene bits yourself theyll come and remove it? :)

Screwfix do a graffiti remover spray, seems to work. Dont sand blast stone though, really damages it.
