Ranch fencing how to

Jul 11, 2006 6 Replies

Wife's pal is putting a fence in her back garden, she was saying she wanted a "ranch style" fence (sure that's the one with horizontal rails). She had a professional quote of £1400 for putting it in she feels this is far too much, now her husband is not afraid of a bit of graft so they have decided to do it themselves, they know the basics but does anyone know of a site that gives step by step instructions so they could look out for any gotchas.

Either buy or rent a manual post hole borer - if you live in Surrey could possibly loan you one - it saves time ground disturbance and concrete

I would suggest hiring a motorised one like this:

for a weekend. Manual ones are OK if you are only sinking a few posts.
