That would be my only criticism of the driver. If he slowed down and the cyclists took no action then I don't see the difference between driving slowly past them or the LR being stationary. Either way they have the same clearance.

No, the cyclist is much more aware of their positional relationship with respect to the car. They can react better if something goes wrong.

It is safer to let the cyclist control the manoeuvre. This isn't for one man up man ship sake, it is just safer.

But IMO, and if I were the driver, I'd pull over and stop, or at least creep along. Same as I would for a bunch of runners. Common courtesy.

I assume that you have never uncounted the men in Lycra who believe they own all of the road (both sides) on their regular "Tour de Rural Roads" racing tournaments.

In my experience most cyclists show no common courtesy towards other road users.

You mean those foolish shoes that clip onto the pedals? They ought to be illegal - using them means you're not in control of your vehicle as you can't put your feet down as required to control it.

I always give horses, cattle, sheep, pigs etc. priority. Cyclists should be treated in the same way as the other dumb animals. If only they'd keep to the dumb bit.

Precisely. You often see these lycra louts at traffic lights, wobbling back and forth so can avoid putting a foot to the ground which is what any proper cyclist would do. Loony behaviour.
