A friend of mine has a fleecy polyester dressing gown that she's had for years and suddenly, spots have started to appear on it as shown on these photos:

They've not all appeared at once but over a few days and not immediately after washing.

They seem to be in quite a regular pattern but I've not actually measured them to see if they are totally regular.

She's not done anything different to the item and the colour of the dots is not the same as the colour of the rabbits in the pattern, so I don't think it's a case of the colour having run.

We've racked our brains as to what might have caused this and would be interested to hear any suggestions - I think it might be supernatural ;)

Anything else marked the same way? It almost looks like the marks could match the perforations of a washing machine drum or dryer. Old coloured sock stuck behind drum in washer , too high temperature for synthetic materials in dryer or is it by chance a gas one and soot is getting into the hot air for some reason.

Is it a kind of a dream, floating out on the tide?

Surely they would Boldly Dreft away on the Tide and end up away with the Fairys or end up Dazzled by Persil whiteness so they would need Comfort.

Tumble dryer burns? Does the spot pattern match the holes in the drum of your dryer or washer/dryer?

Tim

They are very regular. SWMBO suggests that the cat motofs etc. are woven in, and that the darker thread is carried below the outer colour. Outer colour has worn through in some places, revealing the darker stuff.
