Spotted this on a walk yesterday. Apart from the obvious, any ideas what it is for?

That really looks like a 4-slice toaster on a pole. Is it art?

Sorry, but are you really saying the toaster was out on a walk and just popped up onto the pole?

Are you in Scotland by any chance, near 'Crazy Jim'?

It's probably a solar 'tattie scone' toaster he's 'invented', knowing how much he's happy to get stuff for free (near enough for his neighbour to make the scones and load them into the toaster for him).

I can see what looks like a trigger wire on your photo.

Perhaps its a (rather poor) mockup of a fake speed camera?

Unlikely as it is on the back gate of a property that backs onto a sea wall path - unless its for speeding boats?

Speedboats do exist......

I'll get my coat......

Heading vaguely in the direction fo the bolt. Remote indicator? If the gate is opened the toast pops up?

Couldn't that also be a strand of spiders web?

And isn't it already tripped?

Did you notice on your second picture, there are two columns of three LEDs, labelled 'CANCEL', 'REHEAT', and 'DEFROST'. There are two knobs below going from 0 to 6 like heater controls. This toaster looks similar:
