Why the link of coursing to poaching ?

I can appreciate why the owners of large estates might resent organised poaching by criminals gangs made up largely of East Europeans. But does this include traditional poaching as featured on "the Archers" and "Heartbeat" ?

AFAIAA all these UNICEF food parcels are being directed at starving children living in towns. How are poor country children going to survive if this measure is to be rigorously enforced country wide ? With daddy now in prison, and no food on the table ?

Not currently a huge issue in Hertfordshire but organised meets where bets are placed on dogs chasing Hares. Usually involves vehicles going onto arable land and releasing Lurchers when a Hare is put up.

Not good for the Hares but it also leads to problems in securing access to roadside fields.

I do resent a link that leads to a signature without a chance to read the petition first.

I would agree with the hare coursing, and would add badger baiting. Also killing of badgers and birds of prey even, or especially, if landowners or their employees are doing it. I am less sure about poaching. Can't you already get 14 years for it?

Don't like the petition as written, especially reading the whole text which seems to be rather aimed at putting people who live in caravans in prison.

Despite overwhelming public opposition and a longstanding ban, fox hunting shows no signs of abating in the UK. The 2018 hunt season alone saw 550 reports of illegal hunting, though these figures only represent known incidents.

Illegal hunting presumably wouldn't include drag hunts where they all still dress up in pink and black coats and ride off on their horses just the same; but in this case supposedly chasing after a guy trailing an aniseed soaked cloth. (Who presumably could always stay sat in the back of the Land Rover with his aniseed cloth in a plastic bag until the Old Bill show up). So that's all right then.

The Govt already have well established ways of combatting badger baiting.

Basically by getting in first.

The government's badger cull is being expanded to 11 new areas of England including parts of Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire so that more than 60,000 badgers can be killed.

Conservation groups said the expansion was a betrayal of trust after the government this year pledged to phase out the badger cull, intended to reduce bovine TB in cattle, after a scientific review cast doubt on its efficacy.

The petition does not mention caravans. Nor does it mention any other characteristics of the offenders. So ISTM it is you who are choosing to associate "people who live in caravans" with illegal coursing, trespass, crop damage etc etc.
