Interesting that potential competition seems to be worrying them so much. Perhaps it's because the EU is a cosy cartel.

Employment standards in the UK have largely come from collective bargaining and are generally ahead of the EU. That is why real socialists such as Tony Benn etc have always been against the EEC becoming anything more than a trading arrangement.
